JOB SUMMARY
The Tax Specialist is responsible for compliance reporting with tax authorities and other government departments as well as preparing quarterly tax provisions for financial statements; works closely with other functional groups to ensure tax filings are accurate and audit risk is minimized. The Tax Specialist plays a crucial role in assuring compliance in Federal, Provincial, State, and other tax filings.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepare legal entity financial statements, employing US GAAP
2. Prepare the Canadian Corporate Tax returns for the legal entities, together with all related schedules and working papers.
3. Work with external tax consultants and prepare timely support to assist in the completion of US Federal & State tax returns for US companies.
4. Ensure timely reporting and payment of commodity taxes including self assessing HST,RST and Use Tax
5. Prepare and review commodity tax returns (HST, RST, Use Tax, etc) for the legal entities
6. Calculate all required tax payments and installments and ensure all tax payments are made on a timely and accurate basis.
7. Prepare the quarterly tax provisions for all Canadian & US legal entities, together with all related schedules, and working papers.
8. Manage all G/L accounts that are related to income & commodity taxes for both the Canadian and US entities.
9. Maintain current knowledge of Canadian and US tax laws and regulations and accounting standard and principles.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned by management and adhere to established policies and procedures.
