Contrary Company in association with Theatre Passe Muraille is pleased to announce the world premiere play adapted from Marina Nemat?s memoir Prisoner Of Tehran. Adapted for the stage and directed by renowned Canadian writer and director Maja Ardal (Dora Award winner for You Fancy Yourself) and starring Bahareh Yaraghi, Mirian Katrib and Razi Shawahdi. Prisoner of Tehran runs from April 10 ? 28, 2012 at Toronto?s Theatre Passe Muraille.

Marina Nemat was born in 1965 in Tehran, Iran. At the age of 16, she was arrested on false fees and spent more than 2 yrs in the infamous Evin prison, in Tehran, where she, along with many of her friends, was tortured. She was condemned to die, but survived because 1 of the Revolutionary guards, Ali, pleaded for her life. But the price Ali exacted was high: Nemat was forced to marry him. Ironically, it was Ali?s family who eventually secured Marina?s release after Ali was assassinated.
